Bruce Wayne was just a little rich kid, when the brutal murder of his parents made his a rich little orphan. The event made an indelible impression on the boy, and he grew up with a thirst for justice.

Bruce Wayne spent his time and his fortune training to be an independent crime fighter. "Criminals are a supersticious, cowardly lot" - so Wayne took the bat as his symbol, a creature of the night that strikes without warning.

Batman has no super powers like those accidently inflicted on Spider Man, or contained within the ring of Green Lantern.
